Alpha-Stim® is an FDA-cleared medical device that utilizes Cranial Electrotherapy Stimulation (CES) to alleviate symptoms of anxiety, insomnia, and pain. There is also some research that supports its use in decreasing symptoms of depression.
What is Alpha-Stim?
Alpha-Stim is a handheld device that delivers a gentle, microcurrent electrical stimulation through clips attached to the earlobes. This stimulation modulates brain activity, promoting a state of calm and balance.
What's the difference between the AID and M devices?
Both Alpha-Stim devices use cranial electrotherapy stimulation (CES) — a safe, non-invasive treatment shown to reduce symptoms of anxiety, insomnia, and depression. The key difference lies in what additional symptoms each device is designed to treat and how they deliver stimulation.
Alpha-Stim AID is best for:
-Anxiety
-Insomnia
-Depression
The AID model is focused solely on mental and emotional wellness. It delivers gentle electrical stimulation through earclip electrodes and is simple to use with minimal setup. If you're looking for support with sleep, stress, or mood regulation, this is likely the best fit.
Alpha-Stim M is best for:
Chronic or acute pain
Anxiety, depression, and insomnia
The M model includes all the same CES functionality as the AID, but also features microcurrent therapy using handheld probes and electrode pads. This allows for direct treatment of localized pain in the body, making it a better option for individuals struggling with physical pain in addition to emotional or sleep concerns.
In short:
Choose AID if your main concerns are anxiety, insomnia, or depression.
Choose M if you also want to treat pain in specific areas of the body.

How Can I Try Alpha-Stim Therapy?
Alpha-Stim is available as an add-on to your counseling session for $30. This is a self-pay service and is not covered by insurance. If you're using insurance for your session, this fee is in addition to your copay or any other required payments.
Ask your provider if Alpha-Stim could be a helpful part of your care plan, and experience a calm reset for your nervous system. Please note: Our providers do not offer treatment for pain and therefore do not conduct sessions using the Alpha-Stim M device. However, if you receive a prescription from your primary care physician, we are able to sell the M device for personal use.
Alpha-Stim will also be available as a stand-alone 20, 40, or 60 minute session in our Brain Zen Room. (coming soon - referral from a provider required)
How Can I Buy an Alpha-Stim Device?
If you are a current client and Alpha-Stim is appropriate for your treatment plan, your provider can complete a prescription during a regular session. No separate assessment is needed.
If you are not currently a client at Peaceful Waters, you may schedule a one-time Alpha-Stim Assessment with one of our licensed providers. This assessment includes a screening, education on safe use, and completion of documentation required for purchase.

Alpha-Stim is not appropriate for everyone. Do not purchase or use Alpha-Stim if any of the following apply:
You have a pacemaker, implanted defibrillator, or any implanted electronic medical device, you are currently pregnant or suspect you may be pregnant. Alpha Stim is only approved for ages 18 and above.
If you have any medical conditions or questions about whether Alpha-Stim is right for you, please consult with your healthcare provider before use. A licensed professional must determine if the device is clinically appropriate and safe based on your individual health history.
